Women’s Health Camp – Feb. 2020

Imagine being carried on someone’s back, in a basket, when you are too ill to reach a health provider.  This is the reality for residents of Darkha Nepal, where the closest medical practitioner is a 2-3 hour walk away over rugged terrain.  During the rainy season (approximately June-September) the roads are washed out from monsoon rains.  Even when the roads are passable,  there are no doctors in this region, only Health Assistants (with less training than a U.S. Physician’s Assistant).

Colorado Nepal Alliance is hosting a women’s health camp in late February 2020, to allow the women who live in this area to see a doctor, many for the first time.  We will diagnose and treat, to the best of our abilities, whatever health issues they have.  Up to 3,000 women are expected to attend this camp. We will screen to see if any have uterine prolapse and require surgery (uterine prolapse is very common in countries where women carry heavy loads soon after childbirth).  We are raising funds to pay for up to 50 uterine prolapse surgeries (to be performed at Model Hospital in Kathmandu, or Dhulikhel Hospital in Dhulikhel, Nepal).
We are looking for physicians and nurses who want to join our team as volunteers.  Please contact Anne Hines (Anne@ColoradoNepalAlliance.org) if you are interested!

And if you’d like to help fund this camp, we’d love that too!  Just click the blue Donate button at the top of this page.
