Day 14: Rest Day in Virginia City

Rest Day:  Although I really wanted to sleep in a bit, I found myself waking up with the sun. I spent a leisurely morning drinking OJ, organizing my gear, reading, and doing Some yoga on the patio of Bobbie’s idyllic cabin.

I hitched a ride into town with her when she went to open the museum at which she works, and spent the morning poking around the shops and historic displays.

It being the Irish weekend in Virginia City, there was a by-donation baked potato bar at the saloon, so I had me a hearty and very affordable lunch while watching the regional Irish dance troupe perform. I opted to spend the rest of my day’s food budget at the legendary ice creamery, so I sat licking my cone of Irish coffee and spice cake ice creams when the Irish parade went by.

I then went for a long walk down to Nevada City, where I chose not to pay the $10admission to the living history reenactment of the trial and hanging  of George Ives and walked back up to the ice creamery for a second cone of maple nut and chai, because I’m a grown up burning way too many calories and I can have two ice cream cones if I please!

I returned to the cabin for a lovely afternoon nap and then went back into town for a concert to which Bobbie had generously snagged me a spare ticket. Mike Dowling was phenomenal and between him and all the ice cream it was a rest day well spent!

On the down side, it turns out I am horrifically allergic to June in Montana. I could hardly wait to get back to the cabin after the concert to take a Benadryl. Between four different allergy meds, I’m still sneezing and sniffling uncontrollably. Hopefully I will feel better as I get farther north.
